NFPA CHIMNEY INSPECTIONS
-
LEVEL I
A NFPA Level I chimney inspection is the most basic inspection level and involves a visual examination of accessible portions of the chimney's exterior and interior, as well as its accessible connected appliances and flues. During the inspection, the inspector will look for any signs of damage, deterioration, or blockages that may pose a safety hazard or impact the chimney's performance. This level of inspection is recommended for chimneys that have been regularly maintained and used under similar conditions.

LEVEL II
A NFPA Level II inspection includes checking for proper clearances, structural soundness, and any signs of damage or deterioration. It also includes assessing the creosote buildup and checking for any blockages or obstructions that could affect the performance of the chimney. A Level II inspection is recommended when there has been a change to the system, such as a new appliance or fuel type, or when a property is being sold or transferred.
